Solid Rock
Day 23 - April 17 / Elder Ian Bitler
2 Samuel 22:2-3
“He said, 'The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence.'”
I grew up in a small church, in a small town. The kind of church that, to this day, has a piano and an organ and the congregational singing is likely led by the pastor and the choir. It was in that church that God began laying the foundation of the faith that I have in Him today. That church taught me to love hymns and the theologically profound words that were usually found within.
One of my favorite hymns is titled, “Solid Rock”. The second verse goes, “ When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace; in every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil.” then the chorus continues, “On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.” I don’t think it's a stretch to say that we all have times when it feels like we can’t see God through the darkness, in fact for some you may feel like you can never see a God at all. This is where faith and hope shine through.
God’s promises are true (Titus 1:2) and He has promised to be our rock, our fortress and our deliverer. There is no doubt we are currently living in a time of darkness. Each day it seems to become more bleak with more and more people hurting and dying. But God is our Rock, His grace is unchanging, He is our anchor. This assurance gives us hope. Hope because we know the end of the story. We are in the midst of a great battle, and probably not the last battle we will face on this earth, but the war has already been won (1 John 5:4), Jesus is already sitting on the throne, and we have already been granted entry into His kingdom.

Prayer Points:
- Praise God that He has already won the battle and the war
- Thank God that He is our Rock, Fortress, and Deliverer
- Ask God to give you peace and hope in the midst of battle
