Faith in the Creator
Day 2 - March 24 / Pastor Dan Betters
Hebrews 11:3
"By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God..."
We weren't there at the beginning, but we believe the testimony of God's Word - he made us, the world and everything in it and around it. Everything that we see, everything that we experience, everything that we taste, smell or touch is God's creation.
The writer of Hebrews packs these few words with great theological truth. The Creator is also the Sustainer. The Sustainer is also the Provider. The Provider is also the Sovereign ruler over all of His creation. Just like the children's song says, "He's got the whole world in His hands."
God's hands are big. I mean, super big. Psalm 8:3-4 says, "When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?" Did you see what the Psalmist did there? He is overwhelmed by God's bigness. God created the stars which are millions of times bigger than our small dust planet with just His fingertips! The Psalmist is so overwhelmed that he leaves out the first half of his response. He is saying, "God! When I see what just your fingertips are capable of, the majesty of creation, I am overwhelmed with the question, 'why do you even think or care about me?'"
But God does care. That's the whole point of Psalm and Hebrews 11. The same God who created the heavens and the earth is also in complete control of every aspect of our small pale blue dot. Keep the faith that you are significant to the Creator.
