Faith That Overcomes

Day 5 - March 27 / Pastor Dan Betters

1 John 5:4

"And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.  Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?"

Faith overcomes the world. Faith is the gift of God given to us so that we might overcome the world. What exactly does John mean?

Faith in the work of Christ overcomes our sinful debt. We owed God our lives for our sin against Him. Jesus paid that debt in full on the Cross. Have faith.

Faith in the work of Christ overcomes our worst fears. We were once sinners in the hands of an angry God. We are now saints in the arms of a loving Father. Faith in Christ's work has brought reconciliation where there was once war.

Faith in the work of Christ overcomes the accusations of our shame. You are who God says you are. You are a child of the living God and joint heirs to the Kingdom with His Son Jesus. You aren't your worst mistake and you aren't your best victory - you are now dressed in different robes - the robes of Jesus' accomplishment - not yours.
Prayer Points:
  • Give thanks to God for the gift of faith
  • Confess the worldly things you trust more than Christ
  • Read and Pray through Psalm 18
